Bernard Pivot died. PIVOT, in French, is the Hub, the linchpin, and this is what Monsieur Pivot was, a central link between litterature and the great writers and philsophers of his century, he met them all, creating television at it's best. He was a French Tv-Journalist who created "Apostrophes", a TV-Program dedicated to litterature, where every Friday evening, writers and philosophers would discuss their latests books with Pivot, who had read everything and shared his love for litterature with millions. I met him once, when my master and friend Krzysztof Kieslowski was invited to his program "Bouillon de culture" (which came after Apostrophes, and was more open to other forms of Art, like Cinema, and Culture), it was in 1995, a year before Krzysztof passed away, at 55 years, after a failed heart surgery, he was promoting his film series "The Three Colors", which I had translated into French, and had asked me to tag along... I will post this archive soon, in the meantime, you can watch (in French, with English subtitles) this "Apostrophes" program about Romain Gary's double identity, Emile Ajar, and the mistery of what lead him to this incredible mistification, and to commit suicide in 1980. Pivot's work with this TV Program and also as a writer and journalist lasted 15 years with "Apostrophes" and then continued with "Bouillon de Culture" and many other litterary and cultural initiatives, this episode is one of the many highlights of the great writers, intellectuals and artists who were his guests. In this generation, in France, we are all the children of Apostrophes and of Bernard Pivot.
Au revoir, Monsieur Pivot...

LOVECRAFT
Cthulhu Ftaghan! This is a trailer I made based on the works of one of my favorite writers, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, the lonely genius of Horror, who spent most of his short life writing horror stories for Pulp Magazines and letters (it is estimated he wrote around 50 000 letters in his life) to other amateur writers, many of whom he never met. To realize this hommage to his work, I used three or for different apps, it seems there is an AI app for everything these days, and there a new ones coming out almost daily, I tried HaiperAi, Civit and Adobe Firefly, it took me about a day to create this one minutes of video, with of course the typical "frozen characters", because I haven't mastered the mouvements yet, but stay tuned!

Testament
I leave to the four elements
what I was given for a short while
to fire - thoughts
let fire flourish
to the earth I loved too much
my body a barren seed
and to the air words and hands
and longings which are things unecessary
what remains
a drop of water
let it flow
from the earth to the sky
let it be a transparent rain
a frosty fern a flake of snow
let it never reach the sky
to the earth valley of my tears
return faithfully pure, dew
that crumbles the hard soil
soon I will give back to the four elements
what was given to me for a short while
- I will not return to the source of peace
Zbigniew Herbert, translation Martin Latallo
